Lockheed Martin to cut 250 jobs in April ahead of further layoffs

    [...]
n line with longstanding plans, the company said some 850 positions, primarily engineering-related, will be cut during 2008. As many as 200 of the workers laid off will likely be placed in other company jobs or offset by voluntary layoffs.

Most of the cuts will be at Lockheed Martin's Fort Worth, Texas site.

The Bethesda, Md.-based defense company is developing the F-35 with its principal industrial partners, Los Angeles-based Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE:NOC) and U.K.-based BAE Systems.

Lockheed Martin shares closed the regular session up 9 cents at $106.53.
