N.J. proposes revised affordable housing rules
New housing rules proposed Monday would require one out of every five new housing units built in the Garden State to be affordable to low-income buyers.
The Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) proposed the revised rules after a court invalidated previous guidelines telling towns what they must do to make housing affordable to low-income residents.
The revised rules establish a need for 115,000 units of affordable housing over 11 years, more than double the previous quota.
