If Conrad Burns Wants Japan to Import Amerikkkan Beef...

He ought to write legislation to stop Amerikkkan rancher's habit of feeding prion infected cows to other cows, a disgusting practice that causes the spread of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a disease that causes fatal brain damage.

But he won't do that because he is in the pocket of big business, including big agribusiness.

I sometimes wonder if half the senate doesn't already have brain damage, including Burns. Look how he thinks he can push the Japanese around, demand they expose their population to this disease.. He certainly doesn't give a damn how many Americans consume the deadly prions. But I guess that isn't so much brain damage as it is greed and sociopathy.

WASHINGTON - The United States should impose economic sanctions on Japan if it fails to put aside its fears of mad cow disease and open its borders to U.S. beef by the end of the summer, the Senate Appropriations Committee voted Thursday.

The committee approved the nonbinding language on a voice vote to be part of a fiscal 2007 agricultural funding bill. The Senate could debate the bill as early as next week, the same time Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi visits the White House.

"I hope he takes heed of this," said Montana Republican Conrad Burns, sponsor of the "sense of the Senate" language.

Burns said a U.S.-Japan agreement Wednesday on steps to restart trade was just "another stalling tactic" to stretch out Japan's ban on U.S. beef, imposed as a precaution against mad cow disease.
