Illinois Health care uninsured finding a voice
CHICAGO | About 38 percent of the uninsured Illinois residents surveyed were unable to get health care in 2004 and about 24 percent of the uninsured called their health status "poor or fair" in that year, the State Health Access Data Assistance Center reported last week.
The study linked the lack of health care to the inability to afford a doctor when ill during the 12 months prior to the survey. The study revealed the extent of care disparities between Illinois residents with health insurance and those without it, a focal point as local health care leaders jump-started national Cover the Uninsured Week.
