US Interferes in Nicaraguan Affairs
Managua, Jan 6 (Prensa Latina) Presidential candidate Daniel Ortega publicly called for the US government not to interfere in Nicaraguan domestic affairs.
The Sandinista National Liberation Front candidate and former president said on national TV that the US should let the Nicaraguan people settle their own problems.
He said the advance of progressive forces in Latin America proves that the US policy for the region has failed and called its attempts to appoint local candidates and oust the FSLN "absurd".
Ortega"s criticism referred to US Ambassador Paul Trivelli, who constantly makes statements about Nicaraguan domestic political affairs.
The FSLN leader denied that three consecutive defeats have weakened the party which, he said, supports the poor and which true goal is to achieve national unity.
Four parties will contend at the Nov 5, 2006 elections: Liberal Constitutionalist, the FSLN, the allied Nicaraguan Liberal-Conservative parties, and Herty 2006.
