More Fixing in Florida
TALLAHASSEE -- Early-voting hours will be reduced and the spending cap for gubernatorial candidates will more than triple to $20 million under a revamping of state election law that takes effect today.
Democrats and government watchdogs criticize the changes, saying the public had little opportunity to understand them before the Legislature passed them last spring. But Republican legislative leaders said the new voting rules will bring uniformity to the state's 67 counties, and the increased spending limits reflect financial realities.
