GOP Seeks Quick Passage of New Patriot Act

Key provisions cover the ability of law enforcement officials to gain access to a wealth of personal data, including library and medical records, (without a warrant) as part of investigations into suspected terrorist activity.
The measure provides a four-year extension of the government's ability to conduct roving wiretaps (without a warrant) which may involve multiple phones and to seek access to many of the personal records covered by the bill.
Also extended for four years is the power to wiretap "lone wolf" terrorists who may operate on their own, without control from a foreign agent or power. An earlier, pre-Thanksgiving stab at compromise had called for seven-year extensions of these provisions.
Yet another provision, which applies to all criminal cases, gives the government 30 days to provide notice that it has carried out a search warrant.

It also means outside the law, outside the supervision of a judge and without legal guidance or counsel should you be arrested by these thought police. Notice that "ALL CRIMINAL CASES" in there. Not all criminal cases are connected to terrorism, are they? Sick shit. Extremely unamerican. The patriot act is bad news. The patriot act is legal support for a police state.
This is how you can tell - anything Bill Frist wants so much is something that is likely to be bad for the country.

I am so interested in finding the current definition of "terrorism" for my criminal justice background, that is a very broad/generic description. Even without slipping the "all criminal cases" provision ... without this clear definition of what individuals / events / circumstances might fall under this terrorism umbrella would allow for tremendous manipulation. Perhaps my researching skills are simply lacking & there is a good definition provided ... if you could pass it along, perhaps that would clear things up!

I can give you an accurate defintion of a terrorist; anyone BushCo wants to get.

You know, you just gave me a post idea. I'll have to compile a list of some of the falsely arrested, imprisoned, kidnapped, rendered, sodomized, waterboarded, "fucked" and other wise Bush Whacked individuals who've been called terrorist suspects by that pack of geniuses in washington.

Also, we are in the era of thought crime. Take a gander at the patriot act. What you read can get you "fucked."

Much to consider. I'll be getting back to you
