Yeah, uh huh, the Amerikkkan vision is that the leaders, who will hopefully each be criminals put in charge by covert US activity, such as murderous death squads who overthrow democratically elected governments, (See SANDINISTAS for one example of hundreds of such US "interventions") will sign agreements with multinational corporatist overlords in order to enslave their populations to Amerikkkan style capitalism, which means European style feudalism but without the health benefits and paid leave.
It also means no environmental or labor regulation of any kind and low, low wages paid to the laborers who make those goods that will be shipped around and sold at top dollar.
FREE TRADE IS CODE FOR RAPE OF THE WORKERS OF WHATEVER COUNTRIES ARE INVOLVED.
Every time you hear it, and it is invariably discussed wrapped in a lot of hot air about democracy and equitable capitalism, believe me, this is what they are talking about. Class war. Enslavement. Expansion of the Ownership Society - pouring money into the hands of the greedy thugs who own the planet - or who think they do - at the expense of everyone else involved, from factory worker to consumer to gasping fish with bloody gills in the dangerously toxic seas.
Yeah, the "people" who benefit from so called free trade are those who earn 12,000 dollars an hour while paying their workers 20 dollars a day. And I am not exaggerating the numbers on what they earn.

Bush takes veiled swipe at Venezuela's Chavez

BRASILIA (Reuters) - In a veiled swipe at his main regional critic, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, U.S. President George W. Bush said on Sunday that some want to roll back democracy in Latin America by playing to fear and blaming others for their failures.
In a speech, Bush said ensuring social justice in Latin American requires choosing between "two competing visions."
He urged people in the region to pick democracy because it is founded on representative government, integration into the world community "and a faith in the transformative power of freedom in individual lives."
"The other seeks to roll back the democratic progress of the past two decades, by playing to fear, pitting neighbour against neighbour and blaming others for their own failures to provide for their people," Bush said.
Chavez is a fierce Bush critic who has annoyed Washington by strengthening ties with anti-U.S. states like Cuba and promoting his self-described socialist revolution as a counterweight to U.S. regional influence.
While the speech was a clear reference to Chavez, Bush did not mention him by name in what aides said was an effort not to elevate the fiery leader. It might also offend Bush's host, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is a friend of Chavez.
At the 34-nation Summit of the Americas in Argentina on Friday, Chavez vowed to bury Bush's proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas, which has been stalled over concerns by some leaders about U.S. agricultural subsidies.
"The choices we make will determine which vision will define the Americas our children inherit, and we must make tough decisions today to ensure a better tomorrow," Bush said.
