Ahmed al-Khatib, a 6 year old Palestinian boy murdered by Israeli Troops
The parents of a 12-year-old Palestinian boy who was killed by Israeli troops donated the boy's organs for transplant, calling it a gesture for peace.
The boy, Ahmed al-Khatib, was shot Thursday in the West Bank while holding a toy gun in an area where Israeli troops were clashing with Palestinian stone throwers and gunmen, said the Israeli military, which expressed regret. Ahmed was taken to an Israeli hospital in the northern city of Haifa and died of his wounds on Saturday.
"We are suffering, so we are donating this to give someone else life," Ahmed's mother, Ablah al-Khatib, told Agence France-Presse in the West Bank town of Jenin, where thousands attended his funeral on Sunday.
In Israel, six patients received transplants from Ahmed's organs, which included his heart, liver, kidneys and lungs, Israel radio said.
