Ex Bush Official Sued by Padilla Family. Lawsuit claims legal opinions led to mistreatment, illegal detention

I heard a piece on Democracy Now a couple of months ago discussing the fact that Padilla is BRAIN DAMAGED from the severe isolation (and other abuse) he withstood at the hands of our government.
    [...]
The lawsuit claims that John Yoo, a former senior Justice Department official, wrote several legal memos that led President Bush to designate Padilla as an enemy combatant shortly after the U.S. citizen was arrested in May 2002 at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on suspicion of involvement in an al-Qaida plot.

Yoo at the time was deputy assistant attorney general in the Office of Legal Counsel, which provided many of the main legal justifications for Bush administration policy on treatment of terror detainees.

As to the 2008 elections, I'm supporting Edwards. Kucinich doesn't stand a chance or I'd support him. I'm disappointed about Obama's Iowa win, but do not think it means he is anointed to the presidency as do the blithering fools of Mainstream Media. They're leaving Edwards out of the discussion and everything I've heard and seen from these propagandists says the contest is between Obama and Hillary. I find Edward's being expunged in that way quite Orwellian, especially since he beat in Clinton in Iowa. And particularly since his ideas resonate far better with the public than either Hillary or Obama's

I've seen enough of right wing Hillary already and Obama's expressed desire to compromise with fascists and criminals (to heal the nation???!) seems like a lot of insubstantial, do nothing but get elected shit to me.

I like Edwards anti corporate talk a lot. And I agree with it completely. These corporate monsters have got to be stopped.
And I want the next administration to launch an investigation into the conduct of this one that results in criminal trials for top officials. This law suit might make a good start.
