Armed villagers invade Nigerian Shell oil platform

"Shell promised a new school and water and the community felt the company had not lived up to its promise or expectations," a military source said. Disputes between oil multinationals and local communities, over jobs, contracts and development projects, are common in the Niger Delta and they are usually resolved with the intervention of the regional authorities.
