    A few Weather Stories

Heavy rain has caused severe floods in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, weeks after the worst droughts in decades.

Wet weather has had little impact on the drought in the South East, the Environment Agency has said.

The Bedford County Board of Supervisors agreed Monday to ask the governor to declare Bedford County a drought area.

Many parts of Minnesota are still experiencing extreme drought conditions despite recent rainfall in some areas.

In the first seven months of this year, Texas Cooperative Extension economists estimate drought losses in Texas have reached $4.1 billion, overshadowing by far the $2.1 billion mark set in the drought of 1998.

The low levels at Lake Lanier have forced the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to cut off permits for new private docks and upgrades to existing docks.

Latin America and the Caribbean will be beset with devastating hurricanes, floods and tropical storms that will dwarf Hurricane Katrina if climate change is allowed to continue unchecked, according to a report by a coalition of development and environment groups.

    Climate change drives genetic changes

Low rainfall combined with extreme heat has led to severe water shortages in North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Montana and Wyoming, dried out corn and sunflower fields, and deprived cattle of pasture land.
The drought follows a recent report (see related story) that predicted worsening water shortages across a number of regions, including parts of the US.

Heat waves to become 'hotter and more frequent'

Michigan's boaters and beachgoers have suffered through another summer of shallow water, green slime and thick marshes that have overtaken beaches.

Spring is arriving sooner and autumn is starting later because of climate change, according to a study of more than 500 plants and animals across Europe.

    Desert grapples with floods

High winds ripped this 50-foot section off wall the Wisconsin Trade Center located on Greenway Boulevard.
