Storms lash Midwest, thousands lose power

The violent weather caused blackouts in southern Wisconsin, central Michigan and northeast Illinois, where some 65,000 Commonwealth Edison customers were without power at mid-morning Tuesday, including 24,000 in Chicago, The Chicago Tribune reported.

More than 110,000 homes and businesses in Illinois suffered outages at the height of the storms. Winds near 70 mph were recorded in Chicago's northern suburbs.
