"The United Nations can't do anything about Israel's agression and the
United States unreservedly supports any action by the Zionist state," protestor Mohammad Sidiq told AFP.
"This demonstration is intended to show our solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese people," he said.
The protesters were mostly supporters of the Muslim-based Prosperous
Justice Party, which is popular among urban Muslims and is known for its
ability to mobilise thousands of supporters for peaceful protests.
The party finished first in Jakarta in the 2004 parliamentary elections
with 24 percent of the vote and has 45 seats in the 550-strong national
parliament.
