U.S. blocking Venezuelan from U.N. council

CARACAS, Venezuela, June 7 (UPI) -- The United States is attempting to block Venezuela from taking a seat on the U.N. Security Council, The Washington Times reported Wednesday.

Washington is trying to convince Latin American nations to choose Guatemala over Venezuela when Argentina vacates its seat on the council at the end of the year.

Several countries such as Argentina and Brazil, however, support Venezuela's bid to take a temporary seat at the U.N. body.
