US prepares for mass May day protest by immigrants

America was bracing itself for "Una Dia Sin Inmigrantes - A Day Without Immigrants" today, as thousands of illegal workers prepared to boycott work, school and shopping to join demonstrations against proposed new immigration laws.

Thousands, or possibly millions of people were expected to join a nationwide boycott planned by a network representing some 40 million Hispanics.
