U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday approved a defense bill totaling 512.9 billion U.S. dollars
The bill, passed by a vote of 396-31, set policies and plans for defense spending for the next fiscal year beginning Oct. 1. Actual appropriations will be provided in separate legislation later this year.
The bill, which included a plan to spend 50 billion dollars for U.S. military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan for the first months next year, would allow the Defense Department money to continue developing countermeasures for roadside bombs in Iraq.
