Landrieu threatens to block appointments over levees

Saying coastal residents "cannot wait much longer," Sen. Mary Landrieu blamed the loss of 1,200 lives in her home state "to the loss of wetlands as a protection and a lack of levees that held."
    [...]
The senator said she sent a letter to Bush on Tuesday and "urged him specifically to request of Congress $6 billion that his administration says that we need in order for our region to be safe."
If the White House fails to meet her demands, "I will be compelled to use the power of my office as a senator to hold all executive nominations until we can get a response from the administration."

There was no immediate response from the White House.

Blocking or failing to act on executive appointments may not be the only pressure she applies, she warned. "I have other leverage, and I'm prepared to use it if I have to."
    [...]

I caught professionally bitter, lizard-eyed hag Bay Buchanan on TV telling Wolf "republican" Blitzer this tactic will turn the public against the democrats.

Ah, I begin to wonder what exactly the repuglikkkans are snorting.

Perhaps it isn't a tactic so much as Senator Landrieu doing whatever she can to save New Orleans from abandonment by the federal government, because of unelected Grover Norquist, and other neocon hate monger and misogynist polices of spending money only on the ridiculously big, bloated, preemptive, privatized-mercenary military in which the GOP have plenty of personal investments, rather than spending on any domestic issue at all.

The public may ADMIRE Landrieu for this. I know I do Bay.

I suspect the public has turned against the democrats because of their 25 years of puckering their lips against right wing ass in Washington, selling the public to corporate fascists all the while.

Of course it is hard to know how to respond to an undemocratic, rule ignoring, anything to win bully like the GOP. But I 've always thought the best thing to do with a bully is stand up to them. Then you can watch while they crumble..Here's hoping.
