Between 500,000 to 2 Million Take to the Streets of L.A. To Demonstrate Against Anti-Immigrant Bill

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets in downtown Los Angeles Saturday to demonstrate against a new anti-immigrant bill being considered by Congress. Stretching for 26 blocks, the crowd of over half a million people marched peacefully in what was possibly the largest gathering in the city's history. Some estimates put the crowd total at around two million.

Best thing that could happen to this skunk of a country, really, that these motivated, aware people should choose us, should want to live here and bring their activism, even as our policies and back door deals with their government impoverish them and force them from their land, even if some of the strutting cock-a-doodle-doo doos in Washington who wish to allow them in, wish it only to advance the implementation of High Tech Neo-feudalism, as ordained by god and "strict constitutional constructionism", both of which support slavery according to the corporate elitists who run this country.

At least these people will fight, will take it to the streets, unlike the majority of the American public who do absolutely nothing against advancing corporatism.

Americans sit on their asses in front of their cable TV, watch FOX news and believe it, watch ESPN instead of news about the world, as if sports stars and baseball games are as important as politician's actions, while media comes increasingly under control of giant conglomerates who place no value on accurate reporting of news or a complete as possible picture of the world.

Americans believe what they are told.

Americans believe what they are told, so when the Reagan administration dumped the fairness rule, said it wasn't necessary, Americans believed it, and when the rules were changed to allow defense contractors to buy television networks, and the defense contractors claimed no conflict of interest, Americans believed it.

And when the FCC moved to consolidate the media to a level at which all the points of view expressed belong to government or big business, and they are one and the same, and no labor point of view is expressed, or student point of view or Palestinian point of view or senior citizen point of view or housewife point of view or gay point of view or black point of view or Mexican migrant worker point of view, etc., is expressed, not ever expressed, Americans say the world is a white male heterosexual monied Christian youth cult and they believe it.

Americans continue to hand their good jobs and benefits to the bipartisan effort of globalization and privatization which ridiculous, pompous pin heads in the New York Times and MSNBC proclaim is hear to stay.

Even though those who actually profit from globalization are the "ruling class" also known as the ownership society, and the rest of the world bears the brunt of salve labor wages, ravaged environments, declining standards of living. NAFTA cost Americans million of manufacturing jobs. Off shoring, outsourcing and the tax code are costing millions of more jobs in all sectors of the economy, except hamburger assemblage.
But we're blaming Mexican immigrants for the loss of jobs.
POLICY is responsible.

Americans drive their gas guzzling Ford and Chevy SUVs, their hummers and enormous, penis substitute pick up trucks while the world edges slowly over the line of peak oil and passes it, and as we leave the age of cheap fossil fuel, Americans continue to look the other way while their government does business as usual with criminal gangs of monarchs and mafia in the middle east and Asia, Africa and whatever Latin American governments they can coerce or overthrow, or wage "preemptive" war crimes against, doling out power backed by insane amounts of lethal force to people who abuse and murder their populations and suck up oil profit and other profits gained through this system of militarism and world wide exploitation of the poor, as their own personal fortunes.

Americans fail to conserve energy at any level while using more resources and polluting the environment more than any other population of the same size to the point the polar ice caps of or shared planet are melting, slowly, now more quickly, releasing their poisonous methane gas into our shared air, which will accelerate the melting, stop the jet stream, and end life as we know it on earth, if we even survive the decreased level of oxygen in our air.

Americans have fallen behind academically in everything, while preening republicans costumed in 5000 dollar suits, bibles clutched tightly to their insect hearted bosoms, slash funding for education in public schools in every conceivable way for decades, push school vouchers as a way to undermine public schools, because Grover Norquist sees no reason why rich folk should have to pay taxes to fund public schools, set up a system of school loans for college so unfair, weighing education in favor of the wealthy, that my neighbor kid who is about to graduate from law school, is graduating with a debt of 132 thousand dollars.

This bright young woman might do some good with her law degree in this time of institutionalized discrimination and civil rights destruction, but is going to work for an insurance company in order to pay off the massive debts accrued from acquiring an education.

Americans failed to protest over stolen elections and highly partisan, political plant supreme count appointments, illegal wars and a standard of living that has been in decline for 25 years because they were too busy buying Tivos and ipods, with credit cards, to notice their civil rights are being taken away, have allowed health care conglomerates and pharmaceutical company to set national health policy in Washington so that America remains the only industrialized county in the world without national health care, though we pay for it, AND for the most bloated outrageous, enrich the fascist war pigs military expenditures on the plant by 20 times more than the next country.

I so admire the Mexicans and others who've marched in American streets these last few weeks, in Chicago, LA, New York, and the Spanish language media that turned them out. They may be the hope of this decaying nation, these people.
